Link: Florida Gov. Rick Scott signs bill decreasing unemployment benefits | The Washington Independent (http://washingtonindependent.com/111974/florida-gov-rick-scott-signs-bill-decreasing-unemployment-benefits - broken link)

"Starting in January, the maximum number of weeks someone can receive state unemployment benefits in Florida will fall from 26 weeks to 23. If the state’s unemployment rate continues to fall, benefits could be shortened to as little as 12 weeks"

How is it business friendly when you have unemployed people(period)??? Why would you tie floridian's benefit to unemployment rate? makes no sense!

With 12 weeks, I suppose all those who will lose unemployment will have to picket Gov. Rick Scott for help

The idea is to get the former middle class out into the fields picking veggies.

Tax Relief – A reduction in employer taxes is projected to save Florida employers approximately $33 per employee.

What the hell is wrong with employers when they want to save $33 per employee from an employee who IS unemployed?

IMO, this makes me feel business are getting way more, more breaks than they deserve.

Yeh, been going on. Same mentality w/ Food Stamp program.

I don't think the majority of businesses are worried about that. They are just trying to stay afloat. They never got a bailout just like the avg person.

Concerns over unemployment from a business side are that their rates go up...just like any other insurance and then they got a real issue.

Apparently, some of Florida anyway, is only concerned w/ tourists, and RE prices being bought from outside investors. I guess this is easier than encouraging "real" jobs and having to deal w/ people who actual live and *gasp* work in FL.

On a side note, doesn't Scott remind anyone of that creepy preacher from one of the poltergeist movies?

If you don't like it, move to a state that will pay you much more in government handouts. California, for example, will pay you $450 a week indefinitely, plus free food and maybe a housing voucher or two.

Then again, their full (U-6) unemployment rate is over 20%, but it sure beats working!

Ah yes, because the unemployed are just low-life scoundrels.
