Hello,

Need some advice. I will be attending college in Fl, August 2012 . I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to move with two young children 5 & 11. I will be coming from a three bedroom house in GA, to a one bedroom furnished apt. I plan to get rid of all of my furniture, but move down some art work, lamps & other personal and electronics items. Whatever else I have left, I will probably keep in a small storage unit in GA. I will be doing this move alone, so I do not want to drive down a U-Haul if I can help it with my car hitched (SUV). I heard people say that it is cheaper to just ship items down. I have a friend who lives there, and thought about just shipping them to her until school starts. My plan is to quit my job during the first week of August. Drive down there, get kids enrolled in school and have a look around before the big move. Most furniture I am just going to give away, but my bedroom set and tables, etc. I would like to sell. (Classes start 8/23 and 8/20 for the kids, but can not move in apt until 8/19 & I have orientation on 8/18) I also would like to get all and any doctors appointments out of the way for both the kids and myself. (Kids will be insured by father, but I will have a lapse and higher co-pays than I have now). It has been the three amigos for years now, so I am used to doing most things alone including moves, but the less stress the better (I also need to find someone to watch kids twice a week total of six hours...I will be in class). I get tired just thinking about it!

Have looked into the PODs containers or something like that? Fill it up, they come pick it and deliver it and then you have a little bit of time to get it unloaded. You are very smart getting doctors appts out of the way, you might want to research what your kids will need as far as shots and physicals for school and get those done in Ga as well. Good luck with your move!

If you have a lot of things the PODS idea sounds like a good one. If you only have a few things could you pull one of those mini U-Haul trailers (they make some REALLY small) behind your SUV?

Another idea.... see if there is a moving truck from your area moving someone else to Florida going to the same area you plan to live in. Sometimes the truck isn't full and they will move another customers items on the same truck. One of my friends did this when her son moved to Boston. They moved only what was in his room. It was cheaper than taking it up to him in a u-Haul.
