^^^She would just need to either say she didn't have a dog, or just say she has a mix breed dog, to avoid the insurance issue. But if anything ever happened she would probably lose her insurance i suspect.

If you'll need to initially rent, I can only speak for south florida..apartments don't allow them.
Best of luck!

State Farm insures pit bulls, as do several other companies.
As for the no free first bite, that's something for the owner of any breed to "keep in mind".

Just a question, you mentioned that your Pit Bull is a Show Dog, considering the AKC does not recognize that breed, what kind of "show dog" is he?

UKC registers American Pit Bull Terriers and the AKC registers American Staffordshire Terriers, who are also informally known as pit bulls. They have nearly identical breed standards, with minor differences. The main difference is that Amstaffs are somewhat larger dogs with blockier heads, looking more like what most people think of when they picture a "pit bull".

I wouldn't do what you recommend. And agree that if she did - she'd probably void her insurance coverage. Robyn

State Farm Florida is writing few/no new policies in Florida these days - pit bull or not. Robyn

Sorry, this got moved from the dog forum. Dogs I know, Florida not so much.
But there are companies that will insure pit bulls.
FWIW, I wouldn't recommend anyone trying to cover up what breed their dog is either.

More people than you think do this to avoid extra costs. My neighbor had an akita, husky and a german shepherd and watched his insurance rise even higher because of the dogs. I'd be surprised if he listed the dogs on his new policy (he just moved).

The OP hasn't responded for a month, but....Our home owners insurance agent, not an HOA, made it clear that
they would cancel us if we were to get a dog on the "bad dogs" list: German Shepards, Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers or Chows. They go by statistics, sad but true. BTW, I live in Flagler.

My boss, who has no clue how to handle a Yorkie, much less a large dog, has a GSD who is gentle with people, but will attack other dogs with no provocation. It's a tragedy and a lawsuit waiting to happen....and another negative statistic for the breed.

Once again, the irresponsible pet owners screw things up for everybody.
