Lived in Palm Beach County for 22 years and I've never heard of the "rat's mouth". I've also lived in Broward for 22 years and I believe I've only seen one or two mice, thanks to my cat. I think your neighbors are bringing the problem to your apartment. We have tenants in my work building who have dogs. The used to leave the dog food out in the bags. Rats finally got a wiff of it and we've had a problem since. I'd be moving if I were you, especially with a nosey landlord like that.

I am actually moving tomorrow, but I gave notice a month ago.

Boca means mouth in spanish, Raton means mouse. People think it means rat.

Now I have no idea how this one got in, I figure he got in when I left the door open to take the garbage out. When I lived in NJ I never had a rat or mouse in my apartment.
Washing your dishes right away (not once a week), taking your trash out frequently(at least once a week), and general cleaning around the house (more than once a year) should do much toward getting your rat infestation under control. Rats really enjoy a filthy environment, so if you like to live like this and don't want rats hanging around your apartment, maybe your should consider returning to New Jersey.

In addition to doing a complete daily cleaning of your entire apartment, you should consider getting pythons, owls and cats like I have if you are really serious about not having rats.
