I read that South Texas (Brownsville etc) is warm like south Florida and cheap to live to boot. What would be ways that south Florida is better?

Thats the East Coast.. Here's South Florida West Coast... A huge difference would be price between Texas and Fla. For Naples area (below pics) for a decent apartment to rent in a not crappy place you're looking at $1000 + for a 2 bed.. Houses for a decent one probably closer to $2,000. Both not on the beach or within walking distance of one... usually

I put in both into a realtor site with no top or bottom limit.. I had to go 4 pages in from the highest priced house to get to the $200,000's in Brownsville. The market seemed more or less fair as far as prices, not too many million dollar houses but a lot more "reasonably" priced for home buyers

Brownsville house for $200,000

Naples Fl $200,000 first one that came up at that price.. 342 pages in. The market here is over saturated with homes $100,000,000 + so the pickins are a lot less and the homes are gonna be a lot older..

For Naples

Aside from cost of living, South Florida would be better in virtually every way. Comparing it to Houston and surrounds would be a closer race.

Brownsville is also 93% hispanic, which would make most non-hispanics feel uncomfortable.

Complex, tough one...both have loads of pros and cons. But I would probably go with Texas nowadays. If money being no issue, I'd go with somewhere nice upper-end in Palm Beach County, or Broward County (Ft. Lauderdale Metro).

Lol, Did you seriously compare the two? It would have been better if you would of compared south Texas to a place like the panhandle they are a lot more alike. I would not live anywhere south of Corpus Christi, unless you are fluent in Spanish. I would live in San Antonio, But it is over two hours to the the beach. Looking at the demographics of these Texas cities makes me question the growth just seems like the Mexican population is growing. No different in Florida , But there are Puerto Ricans, Cubans, and Dominicans.

South FL is more expensive, but better. More diverse, warmer winters, better beaches, prettier, not as polluted, more liberal (though this may be a con if you're republican).

South Florida is better in every way except price. Also, Brownsville area is not warm like south Florida, Brownsville is 100+ throughout late spring/summer and gets below freezing in winter. South Florida gets up to the 90s from May - September, and rarely drops below 50 (unless you are well inland or around the Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte cold pocket).
