If you've always lived in Florida you may not realize that 'dirt' can be cleaner elsewhere.
Are there any hints from long term residents about at least keeping floors clean?

No matter how often I do them, white socks , slippers, bare feet, are all black.
I have been doing the ( bare) floors every day. Every day they are black again.
My car seats are noticeably dirty (never before, even after 10 years of ownership) and none of this washes out completely....all remain stained.
New slippers are stained black within the first week.
Dusting tables, etc, and the cloth is black.
I know this is sand rather than 'dirt' but how do you combat it?
Or do you just live with it?
(Loving these months of going barefoot and/or having white socks that stay white

Well - I have all tile floors and 2 dogs. No matter how much I sweep, the sand is there. I sweep and mop twice a month. Why stress if it doesn't go away. As far as my car, I shampoo when needed and when I got it, I scotch-guarded all fabric coverings.

If you want dirt that will not wash out and will permanently stain, look no farther than Belle Glade's "Black Gold". That does not wash out at all, but produces some of the best sugar cane around. When the cane is cut and the ground is prepared for the next time around, they burn it and the ash gets mixed back into the soil. No better soil for planting of any kind.

I walk in bare feet and socks all day. I wash with no bleach (I'm allergic to it) and still, my socks are white.

You're complaining about dirt being "dirty"... only you go on to say that it's not dirt, it's sand...?

:/

You could get one of the robot vacuum cleaners. There are cheap models and more expensive ones.. the more expensive ones have timers you can put them on.

I lived in PR too, and would still get dirty socks from walking around on the title, and our whole yard was CONCRETE!

Naples.
I'm not the only one....all of my friends there (us northern snowbirds) complain about it.
I have, btw, shampooed my car seats and my....uh oh...white bordered area rug.....no dice...there is a permanent discoloration.
We admittedly leave doors and windows open as much as possible and usually have a nice breeze.
And yeah....that red "Georgia clay" is even worse!

I live on the east coast in Sebastian (between Melbourne and Vero) and I really don't have it. Dust and sand, but no blackness or staining. Do you have muck based sod in the yard?

We have all carpets... With a 3 1/2 year old and two dogs is like I live in some sort of dirt hell. I've lost two vacuums in they past year to carpet eating incidents and m on my second carpet cleaner.

I think I've figured it out.
I realized it hasn't been every year we've been there.....just a few of them.
In both cases, there has been a lot of new construction in the neighboring developments....big machines digging up, hauling in and reconstructing the ground.
Add that to a 'nice' breeze and viola....a very sandy house.
