Ok i was one of those unlucky picks of Allstate dropping us so we ended up with Royal Palm as it was the cheapest for us. Our premium went up $800. We took the option to make 4 payments throughout the year so we made our first payment then the next month got a bill stating the entire balance was due in full! Okay well so much for them offering the 4 payment plan. Anyways we paid it in full. Now i get another bill for $156 because they said after their inspection, our home was under insured according to their appraisal. Now we refinanced our home three weeks before our new policy started and we were covered for what the bank appraised our home at. Now after Royal Palm comes to check things out, they say we are under insured for them. I called them and asked if we can be insured for just what the bank appraised us at and they said no. I asked what the increase was for and they said the cost included clean up and removal of debris if my home is a total loss. Why should the insurance company care if we are under insured or not? Why do they care if we have the money to remove our own debris or not? Do you think the representatives i call for my claim are going to say, "oh you don't have enough money to clean up? well let me come help you out" They don't care. It's just another way for them to get more money out of us. But it should be our choice if we want to insure more than the bank requires us to. I guess the only choices we now have is to go without insurance if we own the home or have full coverage at the insurance terms only. Oh i hate this crap......

It's like a casino game, they make all the rules. What do they call it, the "Golden rule", the one with the gold makes the rules. We are just pawns, it's a joke.

Default Royal Palm = making the rules up as they go

My mom went through a similar ordeal with being dropped by All-State and ending up with Royal Palm. After she paid her premimum for the year IN FULL all at once, she received a bill for another $900. She was told the underwriters had the final say - again, this was after she received a premium and paid it in full. And that they, for reasons I'm not quite clear, felt an adjustment upward was required.

With the $900 increase she was actually able to get insurance from Citizens. She cancelled Royal Palm but is still awaiting her check. She's now sticking with Citizens unless they force her out.

Well I hope she gets her money back but i wouldn't count on them jumping right on it to send her a check. I called the 800 number on my policy to question the increase and the man said he couldn't discuss my policy with me over the phone!!! I said "what do you mean you can't talk to me, your my insurance carrier!!!" he said i had to call my local agent which I did and she discussed it over the phone with me no problem. I'm already not liking how this insurance does things and i've only had it 2 months now. I'm all for giving people/businesses a chance but it makes me nervous now that they might come up with another reason to increase further down the road.

The real test is if you ever have a claim, then the real fun begins.

Recently read a story on the St. Pete Times Web site in which they interviewed a guy named Robert Hartwig, who's an economist for the group that does the lobbying for the insurance industry -- he's been in the news before with observations on the Florida insurance market. I remember clearly that Hartwig said that to adequately cover their risks in Florida, insurance rates would have be TWICE as high here as they are now -- and even that might not be enough.

Sounds like the kind of guy I'd invite to the local tavern so we all could break beer bottles over his head.

Do they need a reason for these rate increase? Fl is the test ground for the global warming era, first they are going to gouge us until we can't pay anymore then set the rates just under that. Then they will complain they cannot survive with this risk but will state "Mr.Crist and Co. made us do it". And Charlie "Drop like a rock" after arriving home from his insurance company sponsored "Business Retreat" will announce a win for the citizens of FL.

Charlie "I don't own any real estate in Fla" Christ said he "feels great" about the Fla economy.

Living the lifestyle of a prince now that he's in the drivers seat, after seeing property taxes rise 200-400%, you can be sure he does
