I was in Ga over Labor Day weekend and the heat was like nothing I've ever experienced. I will admit summers in GA make summers in Fla look like a day trip. They don't have sea breezes so the haze was unreal.it was a stifling heat like I've never felt. And I've lived in fla for 30 years . We had people around us getting sick left and right. Unbearable heat there

Yep. That is why I laugh when people think it is hot here.

My son's summers up in Tally are a lot hotter than ours all the way down in Miami. His solace is knowing they are finite whereas our heat down here is pretty much an ongoing day in day out thing. His gorgeous weather has already begun.

I have done it plenty of times before. Florida summers are the worst in the nation. Houston might be the only place that is worse than Florida for summers. In the south the nights are still pleasant even in the summer.

The climate is very similar to Greenville in Atlanta but your precious mountains are much closer to Greenville. I was able to get to downtown Asheville in about an hour from my house in the Upstate of SC. I've also been in Atlanta when it snows and also in Atlanta when it's summer and let me tell you neither are great. My first summer in the Upstate of SC was the worst heat I've ever experienced and there weren't nearly as many water activities to cool you down as in Florida.

EDIT: Don't sleep on Greenville, yes it was too small for me too but it's a fantastic town. I do however know what you mean regarding needed a bigger city. Even though my daily life was unchanged living there, just knowing I'm close to everything a bigger city has to offer is comforting to me.

Tampa is hotter than Atlanta and it has a higher relative humidity which raises the index.

Tampa is much more consistent in its temps, whereas Atlanta can have long stretches much warmer than Tampa......with roughly the same dew points often. Similar to the seven years were spent in NC. Tampa just has warmer weather a little longer.

Look at the average summertime temp highs. Raleigh and Tampa exactly the same and Atlanta only two degrees less. Tampa will be much more consistent where the others will have much more extremes. We spent several years in that region with temps regularly 90-105 degrees, with the same dew points.

Atlanta July Weather 2014 - AccuWeather Forecast for GA 30303

Tampa July Weather 2014 - AccuWeather Forecast for FL 33602

Raleigh July Weather 2014 - AccuWeather Forecast for NC 27601

Trust me, move away from Tampa to many of the other southern states and y'all will experience some real heat.

The difference is it has an ocean breeze. It's hot yes but not hazy. The heat in Atlanta is what they call dead heat. It sits and becomes hazy at ground level from the humidity. I've lived in South Fla my entire life, except for Inland NH once and I will tell u right off the bat ANYWHERE not near an ocean is gonna be 1000x's worse than what you've experienced in Florida and u can believe it. In NH it got well over 100 with haze and I remember that summer laying on my wood floors trying to absorb any coolness from them and that's no joke. Atlanta summer is gonna be worse than what ur gonna find here hands down.

I just got back from Ga and what was suppose to be a 5 day vaca ended after two because the heat was so bad we were gettin sick..
