I would like to get a vanity plate but I was wondering if I can keep my original license number (or will I get a new number)? Just wondering...

I don't know how you can keep your tag number.

Do you mean a specialty tag? Like the universty/sports teams/wildlife, etc? If so, they will come prenumbered and you can get them at the tag agency.

A vanity tag would have your own letters or numbers on it. I think up to 8 characters. Something like glfrgurl or head doc. Those are custom made and they can't be obscene or controversial.

On second thought, maybe you could get a vanity tag made up with your exisiting numbers....

You would not be able to keep your old plate number, even if you wanted to use the number as the vanity statement on your plate. Since the number has already been issued, it can not be re-issued on another plate. That would be like having 2 Florida plates that said "Prtygrl" on them. As soon as you are issued a new plate for the same car, FL will void the old number. It is how they prevent any illegal activities.
