I like the idea of the gulf coast a bit more than what I have heard from the east, however I am not from Florida so we are open to suggestions.

I'm originally from Portland, Oregon- he grew up in FL and we have been living in Indiana for a while now- which does not support the type of lifestyle we wish to have.

Looking to find a more progressive, open minded community that has local organic farms/produce/grocery stores close by, local businesses are a plus! We love to support local owners and that sense of community. We love nature and doing outdoors activities. We are mid 20 somethings, looking to start a family in the future so a safe quiet laid back area would be nice. We are very much into health/fitness, country/beachy laid back lifestyles and not into big city or loud partying lifestyles.

Thank you in advance!
Keep on researching the Panama City area, you'll find some area to fit in, if after a while you encounter a better area you can always relocate again..https://www.google.ca/#q=organic+far...da&safe=active

Why the Negative Nancy responses, no doubt due to their desire for a more progressive place to live? With a good familiarity of Indiana myself, I know the lack of progressiveness/open-minded individuals they speak of. Moving someplace else will have a significant impact on their lives as I know it has with mine under similar circumstances. Florida despite it's similar reputation does have some pockets of progressiveness. We may not have many organic farms here due to over development (or even what one would call a legitimate farmers market) but we have decent access in most major cities thanks to Whole Foods and other smaller natural foods grocers, as well as farmstands which are fairly prevalent in the Clearwater area for example (my suggestion for a place to seek out)....which has a brand new Whole Foods opening (Countryside Mall) as well as a nice smaller independent (Nature's Food Patch). Lastly as we all know in this current economy finding a job out of state is rather difficult unless one has a highly sought after technical skill or the ability to transfer with their current employer. People move all the time without jobs lined up, but to generally succeed that requires a minimum of 6 months of savings (9-12 months ideally) to insure financial stability and avoid sleepless nights.

No mention of having jobs lined up which I cannot believe you have not jumped on that subject first and foremost.

So why does everyone else keep recommending the Panhandle as a good suggestion when they're looking to leave their current Indiana-like environment, which is exactly what the Panhandle is like????

The Florida PanHandle is just like Indiana?
I mentioned looking in the Pan Handle because thats where the op seems to have devoted her research so far, IMO its a good a place as any to make an initial Florida relocation, Got warm weather, got beaches, i also get the impression the suburban sprawl of the Tampa Bay area isnt what the OP would be comfortable with..

I read a lot of your post and disagree with many things you post like this one.

You were not much help other then hey find a job.

You try to come across as the Florida guru of everything Florida and many times I have had to correct your information or advise over the years.

Maybe you should invite them to your area since you are very progressive as well.

Dang, I finally agree with you on something. OP wont fit into the Panhandle where many awesome conservative families and hard working people live.

Kyle dont know much about Indiana at all. I do, lived close to it and did many trade shows, part owner of a retail store in Nashville, Indiana for a few years, sold antiques in eastern Indiana etc. Nephew went to and graduated from Purdue so we spend some time up there visiting him.

Voters do vote Republican and has a very successful Governor in Daniels but like you I dont think lumping everything into one is going to fit into the OPs liking.

Sunny You seem to be implying that people like the op should only consider living in progressive areas as the panhandle is only for where awesome conservative families and hard working people live, Really?
You seem to be making the assumption that the op isnt awesome or hard working.
Sunny i believe you got a much warmer welcome when you decided to relocate to Florida...

No, I dont think she will like the Panhandle because it is largely conservative.

And no I did not imply she was not hard working at all. I said many hard working conservatives work in that implying that I know many who actually live and run businesses etc are in the Panhandle. Many were past customers of mine and one is from my neighborhood in Ohio and moved here 10 years ago. They are awesome people and have great families.

Yes I agree. This forum has been filled with liberals who push their agenda like they do over on the political forum.

And the three deaths threats and threats on my kids by the psycho loonie nuts who in their death threats told me they were liberal and hated my conservative ways proved to me many liberals are very aggressive and hateful as shown in the political forum.

We have two real left wing loons here who dont like it because I am dead set against gays, illegal trespassing criminals, non working lazy people who suck off the rest of us etc.

I have an opinion and I am sticking to it.

The OP first needs a job. Then needs a list of other important factors along with a list of towns that fit her needs and wants.

I was lucky enough to make a very successful move here by years of researching and spending foot time in the areas on my list. I chose the perfect spot for me and my family. Many just like us, with same beliefs, income etc and it has worked out perfectly.

OP and others need not to just hop into a town based on one important factor as many have done that and failed.

I hope she finds a place that she can have it all and enjoy the paradise we have enjoyed for almost 3 years now.

If you are getting death threats through the forum by all means notify the mods.
As for the political issues you are certainly entitled to your beliefs but i got the impression you put these potential newcomers in a liberal box and consequently your advice seemed to imply certain restrictions on where you think they should live.
In my time in Florida i lived in many places and never did i delve into what my neighbors political stances were nor did i care, in my travels to Panama City i never saw anything to indicate it was any more a conservative area than i did in St Augustine,Daytona or St Petersburg,
Sunny i get the impression you would be very uncomfortable living next to a Liberal,(You didnt go and ask them did you?) i dont get the impression our op really cares that much as long as farmers markets abound, art places are in the vicinity, beaches are close and the weather is warm..

Wrong...as usual. One half of my family is from SW Indiana and know the state well as a couple of family members live outside the SW sector in cities such as Ft Wayne and Carmel...so the familiarity level is quite high. Once again in an attempt to get you up to speed with the OP's criteria, the term "progressive and open-minded" was used which does not describe Indiana in general nor you for that matter, which would explain the inability to grasp anything said for the most part on this thread (as well as others with a similar content).
