I'm sure you have often heard Florida referred to as "south of the south". Florida is naturally southern in pockets, mostly north Florida panhandle down to Gainesville, and then anywhere in central rural pockets heading south.

Most of metro Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is made up of Caribbean immigrants and north easterners. This dates back to when Miami starting rising as a city and the east connection down I-95 from the New York, Boston, and Philadelphia areas made it easy for them to make the trip.

The Tampa/St. Petersburg area is made up of Cuban immigrants and mid westerners. This is due to the area becoming a huge cigar manufacturing and port city when Tampa started to rise. The easy trip down I-75 from the mid west makes Tampa Bay full of Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh transplants.

Orlando is just a hodgepodge of everything because of the tourism money and jobs.

Jacksonville and Tallahassee still have some southern twang, but they are getting watered down and will likely be the next to go.

Bottom line, the answer is because Florida is just not a "country state" like Texas or the rest of the southeast. (This probably has a lot to do with why it is the only blue state in the south too.)

Hope that helps.
Texas isn't a country state, nor is it in the Southeast.

As for Tampa, it has the biggest rebel flag anyone will ever see. It flies high right off of I-75.
That is sad that the losers are flying their flag. Just fly the white one of surrender!

Default Thats the Point!

You may not understand the Confederate Flag, but its more of a state of mind that one will not be a working sheep and just taking it. There are those who believe the Federal Gov, including myself , is out of control from not protecting the borders, spending, growth of gov, gun control and host of important issues.

Our own President has ignored the US Const. and there is a growing movement to Impeach Mr. Obama. You got to remember the chief cause of the Civil War was State Rights.

If citizen do not question the Federal Gov and the branches of such we are all doomed and deserved the result of a Socialist Gov. It does not matter if you are Rep Dem, Tea Party,Liberal or anything else.

I hope this gives a better clue!

Where do I even start?
1-You LOST. Get over it!
2-Yeah, it doubled from 12 people to 24 people! He hasn't done anything impeachable, and it just shades of the 98 impeachment.
3-No, the states seceded due to states rights....to own slaves!
4-We aren't even close to socialists, you want socialism, look in Cuba, and this government has actually CUT spending.

Texas is not in the south west part of the US. It is more southern than Alabama these days where people in Alabama are trying to remove them self from south.

Texas like the Midwest is the most country than any other place in the US.

As for the southern politically it almost 50/50.

41 voted Democratic Party in Texas.

45 voted Democratic Party in Georgia

44% voted Democratic Party South_Carolina

48% voted Democratic Party North_Carolina

Flordia is swing state.

The southern politically is almost divided . Just like federally is divided country.

Some people in south are more libertarian views.

Both are big government unless you vote libertarian party in.The liberals are big government on taxes and social programs but have some libertarian views on social issues.Where conservitives are big government on social issues but little government on taxes and social programs .

The conservitives and liberals got ideas from communism and fascism that the government can tell people what they can or cannot do.Where 100 years ago the US was more closer to libertarian. The feds did really little acted role back than.

You could start by researching how the spending and budgeting is ACTUALLY done, not talking points.

Taking "credit" for cutting something 10 years from now is NOT cutting spending (nor is cutting something that doesn't exist or is ~projected). Hello? Baseline budgeting.

Southern United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Southern United States—commonly referred to as the American South, Dixie, or simply the South—is an area comprising the southeastern and south-central United States. The region is known for its culture and history, having developed its own customs, musical styles and varied cuisines that have helped distinguish it in some ways from the rest of the United States. The Southern ethnic heritage is diverse and includes strong European (mostly English, Scotch-Irish and Scottish), African, and some Native American components

As defined by the United States Census Bureau,[1] the Southern region of the United States includes sixteen states. As of 2010, an estimated 114,555,744 people, or thirty-seven percent of all U.S. residents, lived in the South, the nation's most populous region.[21] The Census Bureau defined three smaller units, or divisions:
