Florida almost anywhere is riddle with crime.

In Central Florida, where W/H is located, all you have to do is listen to channel 20/eyewitness news, and channel 9, and that should answer your question.

Well, if it's a fixer upper, it's probably not in the best neighborhood. And it's not the bank's job to do your job for you. Hire a home inspector to ck out any property you're interested in buying. Anyone that doesn't, they deserve what they get.

For goodness sakes people, rent before you buy to make sure that area works for you!!!

Agreed. Most of the counties that touch I-4 have little room to talk in terms of crime.

I will have the home inspected before I buy. I drove by the house at different times of day. I just was just looking into area. Sorry to say crime is everywhere! I grew up in a small town like Winter Haven. During hard time good people do not so good things to survive! I can watch the news and listen to the radio but I only see the result of big or small problem. I just wanted the wisdom of people that know the area.

thanks for your time.

These numbers are from 2012 off of this website. I would perhaps consider other towns nearby which would offer similar property values/cost without the higher crime rate. By comparison Orlando which has one of the highest crime rates in the country sits at an index number of 496.

See how dangerous Winter Haven, FL is compared to nearest cities:
(Note: Higher means more crime)
Winter Haven:
453.6
Eagle Lake:
211.5
Auburndale:
393.5
Lake Alfred:
293.7
Dundee:
412.3
Lake Hamilton:
312.6
Haines City:
382.1
Lake Wales:
275.3
Davenport:
167.0

Violent crime rate in 2012
Winter Haven:
384.5
U.S. Average:
214.0
