Hello! My family is considering moving to New Smyrna. We are originally from Orlando, living in Raleigh now. We want to be closer to family (but not too close) We have 2 children, a toddler and a baby. Looking for honest advice/suggestions on where to live (we will rent for now) and preschools/child care. Anything else you could share would be really appreciated!! Thank you!

While there are certainly families in New Smyrna Beach, it seems pretty geared to retirees as a general concept and most community resources offered to this group.

My suggestion would be to look at Deltona, Deland, DeBary and Orange City.

SunRail now runs to DeBary from Orlando.

These areas are focused on new families like yours with people your age and community resources for kids. Stetson University is located in DeLand, which is also the county seat for Volusia.

Here is also a link to Volusia schools info:

Good Luck!

I raised a family in NSB. If you want to talk I would be more than glad to help out. It is a very cool town but you have to be selective about where to live and send your kids to school.

I appreciate your help! I certainly check those cities out as well. We have two friends that have young families as well that live in NSB which is why we are considering it.

Thanks.
