This is the voice of experience, Craig's List is used by scammers so don't be too surprised if you get some responses asking for the price and they'll send you a check. They want to send you a check for more than you asked for then you are to wire the difference back to them. Of course the check is a fake and they are in another country...

Here is an actual response copied from my email:
Hey,Good day to you. Kindly check if we can use 7days (October 23th to and 30) at your place. I want you to email me the availability an cost.We are 2, My Wife and I.We are coming for our honeymoon. we dont smoke and we dont drink neither do we have pets.I await your swift responseDr.JohnHoneycutt

I'm sure Craig's List has many honest folks using their services and this is just a word of caution from my experiences.

I have rented property independently, but don't think that I would do it again unless I had the time and energy to oversee the property.

My suggestion is get a good property manager to list it, rent it and collect the rent. I work at a condo that is heavily investor-owned and I have seen folks rent their units out for less than they would have received had they used a good PM. And having someone willing to knock on the door the day that rent is late keeps tenants on their toes.

Especially at times like these, a professional that will run background checks, ensure that the lease is jam up and be there for repairs (and know the best companies to use for the repairs) is money well-spent, IMO, and can actually save you money in the long and short run.

You may also want to check the classified section of the local newspaper. You can do this online. I've been looking in Citrus County, and the local newspaper for that county has a great classified section that links you to the details on the listed rentals.
