From April to October the central air runs 24/7. From November to March it runs 50% of the time. Nobody actually lives in the weather here line they did 50 years ago. They say they like the heat, but they pay a lawn service to do their yard and live and work in air conditioning. That's the secret. Feed FPL>

As the baby boom generation moves into retirement expect many to have similar views as yours when it comes to winter, and down to Florida they come.
I'm nowhere near retirement. I just prefer not to live in a frozen tundra.

If your central air runs 24 hours a day there is a problem either with a/c or wind/air infiltration through windows and doors. System On and System Running are two different things.

Thankfully they are discovering various other parts of the country in which to retire, as well as many of them staying put where they are.

I find the older I get (& I'm under 50) the less I like the cold. I'm a Florida native but spent 24 years in CT. It got to the point where I just couldn't get warm enough in the winters. I've been back in Florida for over a year and the heat honestly doesn't bother me. And it does help that everywhere is air conditioned and we have a pool, which is the very best way to cool off in the summer! And right now it's perfect, haven't had our air on in weeks, all of the sliders are open to the lanai and life is good!

If the sand gets too hot for you in your neck of the woods move to Sarasota and enjoy the best sand beach in the world, Siesta Key Beach, where the fine quartz sand never gets hot...
