Especially during the extremely hot months? Do you just stay inside or do you go to the beach? I remember during a brief stint in Florida it was VERY hot in August and I pretty much had to spend the entire day either inside or in the water (couldn't even stand being in the sand).

A lot of people even move back to their snowy home state simply because they cannot handle the heat. How do you guys live year round in Florida given the harsh weather?

I don't mind the heat. I grew up in the northeast and I hate the cold and the snow. If I ever hate the heat I remind myself how awful it is to have to put on layers of clothes and coats just to take out the garbage and how dangerous it is to drive in snow and ice and how backbreaking it is to dig out your car after a snowstorm. . Plus we have AC. The good thing about the beach in the summer is that the ocean gets nice and warm. I didn't move here for the ocean, I moved here for the warm winters. I don't go to the beach a lot, but it's nice to drive by it and see it when it's only a few minutes ride away.

It all depends on how you tolerate heat and humidity, some just cant get enough of it others like myself start getting very uncomfortable in temps over 80 degrees, the only 2 options i had was to live in A/C environments as much as possible for 8 months a year, or move to Canada.. i chose the latter.

PS. i love winters.

Thanks for the responses so far! I guess it really does just come down to how much heat you can tolerate. Guess I was just wondering if there is some secret method of keeping cool.

This subject comes up all the time here. Everyone has different preferences. I hate cold, and have no problem with the heat any time of year here. I do live near the coast, and feel cooler than inland.

There is another thread about this (or I think two at least) from just this past year. Do a search. Plenty of advice there.

I think it is a matter of preference. I'd rather have warm and sunny over cold and bleak any day.

Floridians go about their lives in the summer just as people in the north do in the winter.

During 2-3 really hot months, most rely on comfortably air-conditioned cars, houses, offices, businesses and entertainment venues (much like they do in Arizona where it averages 10-20 degrees warmer). During the rest of the year, it's relatively comfortable without A/C in most of Florida. IMO, the exception is the Panhandle, where it gets pretty darn cold in the winter.

Floridians, like most people, live where the temperatures suit their comfort-zone. Those who complain the most about the heat are typically short-term visitors who have chosen to live elsewhere.

Wear light cotton clothing, use fans in conjunction with a/c, don't run a marathon at 2pm in August. It really isn't that hard.

Air conditioning, just like up north in August!
