I see that phrase a lot for places for sale in the Keys. What exactly does "ROGO" stand for? Just curious.

What is ROGO?
Monroe County adopted the Rate of Growth Ordinance (ROGO) on July 14, 1992 to implement goals, objectives, and policies of the Monroe County Comprehensive Plan. Pursuant to the City of Marathon Charter upon incorporation of the City in 1999, ROGO was binding on the City.
ROGO established a building permit allocation system for residential construction that both encourages the infill of platted lots (building upon lots already serviced by existing infrastructure (i.e. roads, water, sewage, and electrical)) and limits growth in a way that enables a safe and timely evacuation of the Keys in the event of a hurricane.
ROGO is a point-based, competitive system for issuing building Allocations for new residential dwelling units in the City of Marathon. Before construction of a residential housing unit can begin, a ROGO permit awarded by the City must be obtained. Once an application is entered into ROGO, it is scored by the City based on points given for meeting certain criteria, and then ranked against all other applications entered into the System. The applications with the highest scores will receive allocations the earliest.
By implementing ROGO, goals, objectives, and policies set forth in the Comprehensive Plan are implemented, including managing the rate of growth in order to deter deterioration of public facility service levels, environmental degradation and potential land use conflicts, and encouraging sound development of residential and affordable housing.

hmmm. *walks away a little more confused about life*

So is a lot being a ROGO lot a good thing? How many points should one hope for? (thought this would be an easy question)

Default Shot their own foot

All ROGO does is controlling the growth, and not dealing with the poorly coordinated evac system.

It's no wonder they had to deal with counting chads. Probably has to deal with counting those broken counting machines now.

Default Rogo property

While trying to accumulate points, can the lot be used for anything....i.e park a car/Mobil home or store a boat?(on land or water)

Thanks,
Ed

Mike, living a camper is up to local permitting....depends on how the lot is zoned

ROGO lots already have the permitting in place to be built on. You would need to check with the city/county where the lot is...to see if a camper is permitted...or what kind of building you can do on that lot

How can you tell if a lot has a ROGO permit already or is ROGO exempt? Is there a county public database this information can be researched?

Thank you

Michael
