This is relevant to FLORIDA so please don't move this topic ( :-) )

Okay so I've been preparing for this big move Im about to make. As you know, I've been apartment hunting in Palm Beach Gardens. I've decided to move closer to school. I have only a year left so this will be a temporary arrangement (unless something else comes up). But anyway, I had planned on not working during the next year because of my internship but I think I would like to take up a part time job-- just a few hours a week.

So this brings me to my question: how familiar are you with the PGA scene? I know its odd but I've always been fascinated with country clubs and the golfing lifestyle so I'm curious what it would be like to work part time at one of the clubs. I found a job advertised as a spa and gift shop attendant and it seems sort of interesting. I've worked in retail before so I know its not all rosy. But I've also organized fundraisers/charity events at some of these places and its just all so 'beautiful' LOL- the scene, the greens, the atmosphere. Seems like a relaxing place to work. If im being unrealistic- let me know! But I thought, hey, this could be a fun experience at least for a little while....what do you think?

I've never worked in the retail industry but I lived in the PGA area for many years and I have to say that you're looking at it through rose colored glasses somewhat. You seem to have realistic expectations and the scenery is very beautiful but that never takes away from the unrealistic demands and rudeness of Palm Beachers and snowbirds who expect the very best and demand it that very second. I don't know if I would call these jobs relaxing or fun but part-time, they do pay the bills and let you experience the fringes of that dysfunctional beautiful world. On another note, a spa/gift shop attendant might not be that bad if you go into with the right attitude (which you seem to have, Prettygyrl).

Thanks! I'll take a chance on it and see what happens. I had a friend who worked as a golfing instructor for kids. She claimed she 'loved it'! But then again she's new to this country (from Sweden) so they could be going easy on her (for now) But its tough work- I do recall a few complaints that she had against the parents. Very demanding of their kids and things like that....Sounds kind of intimidating but I try not to let difficult personalities ruffle my feathers.
