The thread is pretty old, but what are people's thoughts on Sanford today? My wife and I just moved to the area and are currently renting, but we've been eyeing some of the beautiful homes in the historic district of Sanford. At least by day, the downtown seems safe enough and it is visibly trying to turn itself around.

Anyone living in the area now, or have any experience in downtown Sanford recently?

Yes, I work in Downtown Sanford and live on the west side near Lake Mary. Downtown itself is largely safe and while there is a visible presence of non-white people around/about (which sends many Central Floridians running for the hills), it certainly isn't dangerous and certainly safer than many supposed more desirable neighborhoods in the Orlando metro area. The adjoining historic residential district has had a few break-ins supposedly in the past few months, but apparently in homes lacking security systems which in this day and age probably isn't the best idea.
