Good point... as with most professions you have to prove yourself.

I am not saying $50k plus is a starting salary. I am talking about someone with a good 5 years at it and also being good at what you're doing.

This

Recent grads with decent internships...not meaning to insult them .....expect $50k or more right out of college!

So glad you cleared that up.

I have said this before and I will say again. You are right. Up North taxes will take a chunk out of your salary. But, your salary will be double a Florida salary. So if a Paralegal in NY pays $70K, your taxes will run you about 7-8%. Compare that with a Florida salary of $40K and no state taxes. Up North crushes Florida.

I have lived in both places and can tell you the cost of living winds up being the same after all the bills are added up (sorry Florida being much more expensive). You get more bang for your buck in housing and that is it.

Also, factor in how much you put into your IRA and retirement accounts up North. It is a perpetual cycle of a bad economy here. Florida needs lots of industry. All it has now is small family businesses and tourism paying minimum wages, and lots of home builders. It also needs mass transit in the form of railroads.

Try ANY cost of living calculator and compare ANYWHERE in FL against ANYWHERE in NY state.

Its a whole lot more than income tax. Look at property tax rates, cost of housing, cost of health care, cost of transportation to name a few factors.

Do you think millions of people relocated here to be in poverty or working for $10 an hour?

Only select parts of FL are major tourism draws. U think there is no industry in FL? Really?

Florida has the 19th largest economy in the world, if Florida were a country.

Really? You quote that website?

Cost of health care? Not cheaper here by any stretch.

Cost of transportation? Are you looking at the gasoline tax? Maybe, you are looking at the subways? Can't be Florida's cheap car insurance rates.

Housing..I agree you get a larger home for the price....unless you live near water...then add in the cheap homeowner's insurance Florida has.

As I said, live in both places.
