That is possible. I am not sure. But there are many places with low crime rates, which is why I say one cannot say the "entire" state is that way. We are very crime sensitive and did a lot of research before deciding where to move. And then there is the, what kind of crime issue. I am not concerned about teenagers who steal cell phones from unlocked cars, but moreso about break-ins, violent crime, etc.

I don't get where this conception comes from. Most Western states are anti-tax and quite stingy in giving out benefits, except for California. And even there the benefits are not nearly enough to live on in most parts of the state.

I haven't been there, but my wife travels there for work often and says it is a completely different world...compared to where we live on the west coast of Florida. She does not care for it, but an ex-coworker of hers always puts in for the Miami site as she loves it. Party girl. Different strokes I guess. My wife just landed there two hours ago and FaceTimed me, not liking it one bit. She can't wait to get home tomorrow night.

Well, we LOVE where we live in Florida. I doubt anyone has been to every single town in Florida, so it's not exactly accurate to say no parts are just fine. And then there is the different strokes side of things.

Washington has had close calls afaik to institute an income tax, and they have a pretty high sales tax as well as other taxes to compensate

WA's sales tax doesn't apply for food, so it's not as high as you'd think.

SE Florida is also the economic powerhouse of the state. I suspect you would be confused in a actual "dump" anyways.

Default Let's look at a political map where Obama won Florida twice

All of the large Urban cities voted for President Obama in 2008 & 2012 :

and where do the vast majority of Floridians live? In these Urban Centers as highlighted in this NASA map :

Notice how dark the "Red" counties are above!

Hmmm!
