I actually would be willing to trade. Florida is right for some not all. And while there's a lot of good places and people down here, ultimately it comes down to this: I like terrain, and seasons, and really just the feel of northern cities. What part of WI are you from? I get BucFan's point about the amenities, and I even think the theme parks are pretty cool every so often. But all that being said, I have to think there's a best of all worlds location out there. If I could move back to the MW, I absolutely would, for many things I miss, but, I married someone who hates cold weather (like below 32, although she enjoys snow). So while family and inertia has its pull, I'd like to be either in North ATL, Clemson, Eugene, Fort Collins, Albuquerque, Sacramento or NoVa by the end of the decade.

Edit: I see Milwaukee area, nice. Good museums and history and lakefront/downtown and parks/sports, solid city, cost of living and traffic is way less and you're 90 minutes from Chicago, Madison/ the Driftless region and Door County. Plus Beer/Cheese/Festivals/Amazing Viennese Food. I could totally work with that ; )

In all seriousness though, best of luck to you. Your kids will probably wind up being happier here too if you are, and your parents will understand. Life is too short to not live where you don't feel fulfilled.

I grew up in Kenosha, WI. I have lived in Northern Wisconsin also. I currently live in the Oconomowoc WI area. I work near Milwaukee. Wisconsin is a pretty state and I don't hate it--I just hate that I have to wear a jacket from October through April. I hate, no LOATH snow. Yuck!! (Loved it when I was a kid)
Now that my kids are (mostly) out on their own except for one---I need a change. I have Always loved Florida and I can't wait to live the rest of my life there.
So my spouse and I are hoping and praying that our health remains good so we can eventually move out of this frozen tundra! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
However, I am a summer type girl and I am wearing open-toed shoes starting today---I don't care if it is only 46 degrees out. The sun is shining and there is no snow on the ground. LOLOLOL
