Talking to a friend last night on the phone who informed me that the Palm Beach County area--she lives in Boca Raton--is primarily Jewish, but that the Tampa/Sarasota side is primarily Midwestern and, I guess I am to assume from that, Christian? True or untrue?
What group comprises the Naples area?

South Florida (Palm Beach, Broward and Miam-Dade Counties) have a high population of Jewish people. Usually they are from the northeast as South Florida is a little like the Northeast. People from the midwest prefer the west coast of Florida Tampa ll the way to Naples, its much more like the midwest. It will be mostly Christian.

I don't think I have ever met a Jewish person here. Synagogues are few and far between. Coming from NY, I miss that. People here are from the midwest, although there are a fair number of Canadians and Europeans too.

Palm Beach County is not primarily Jewish. Boca Raton has a heavy retired Jewish population as does the rest of S. Florida with the snowbirds but not a majority by any means. Hispanics are quickly becoming the majority in all of S. Florida and may be already if you count all the illegals. S. Florida has just about everything including large populations of Christians. I believe the biggest Christian church is in Palm Beach Gardens. Midwesterners usually migrate to the West Coast only because I-75 goes right down and that's where they stop. It is the opposite with the East Coast. People come straight down I-95 from the Northeast and stop somewhere along the way usually in S. Florida. Believe it or not I have heard the highway system is the main reason for the differences. But there are many midwesterners on the East Coast as well. Lots of people from MI, OH, IL, IN, etc.

Despite not being Jewish myself I would think a large Jewish population would be a GOOD thing!

Hi, Isn't there all type of churches in the communities? I am not jewish either and from NY. My problem is that I have a 5 yo and the doctors want me to move south or become a snowbird because of my disability. The doctors say it would help ease some of my pain. However, Schooling is a factor. I live in Central New York and the school here is a very good public school. Is there a school down in FL that would tranfer students around Nov. or Dec. and then transfer them back around May 1? Being disabled it is hard for me to complete the paperwork required for home schooling. The trick is to find two schools that are about the same so my child does not fall behind when she tranfers back. Anyway, I hope someone would know. If so just comment and let me know. Thanks

I think you're better off moving south permanently, than making your child change schools twice a year. In the early grades like K,1st and 2nd, it might not be so bad, but social bonds form quickly and changing schools constantly(even between the same two schools) is very disruptive for continuity of learning as well as making and keeping friends.

A girl in my son's first grade class was doing something like that. Started at our school in the fall, then leaving 2/3rds through the year and then returning the next school year to do the same. At 3rd grade the mom said she's not doing that anymore. It's very hard on the child as they get older.

It can be done as pretty much any public school has to take your child if you're living in their school district, but would you want to put your child through that if there was an alternative?
