Just curious... is it possible to drive a small motorboat to/from Bahamas (Freeport/Grand Island) to/from Florida? It's only 50 miles. Would there be passport control?

It's definitely possible. I know people who have done it. Same with Cuba from the keys. Is it legal? I don't know. Is it safe? Ask those kids who got lost at sea last year. Oh wait...
I wouldn't do it, but like I said, I know some who have.

People do it on jet skis all the time. Just check in w/ your passport when you get there.

Providing you are experienced and competent, absolutely. People take boats to the Bahamas every day, all the time. You should have a PLB, Radio, etc.

And yes, there is passport control. You need to do your research on the procedures before going. It's not that difficult or big of a deal.
