Sounds like you bought an x wind policy. Post a copy of your declaration page and block out the personal info.

You might have a claim against the agents errors and omissions if they didn't slip you something to sign saying you didn't have wind coverage.

In Florida, there are typically two types of storm damage coverage:

(1) Driving rain - Related to water entry via broken windows, damaged roofs, etc.. This generally falls under hurricane coverage, which comes with a 2-5-percent (of your entire replacement home value) deductible per named storm. (Nobody has a $1K hurricane deductible, unless their home is worth less than about $50K). Because of this deductible, most Florida homeowners are essentially self-insured for the first (major) part of any hurricane damage (ie; $300K home x 2-5% deductible ($6K-$15K deductible). Insurance companies have used this deductible in Florida (kind of like a hidden premium cost) to limit their hurricane liability since about 1992 when Andrew hit.

(2) Rising Water (aka: Flood Insurance) - A pretty reasonably priced, separate policy add-on to one's homeowner's insurance (determined by one's 'flood zone' status). Many people believe that 'flood coverage' is part of their basic homeowner's insurance or their hurricane coverage, when it is not.

Technically flood insurance isn’t an add-on. While the insurance agency may handle it on your behalf, it’s underwritten and managed separately. You could not have #1 and still get #2 (why, I don’t know).
