Everyone in Florida should oppose offshore drilling near Florida. There is 0 benefit to anyone here and huge loses from leakage even if there are no major accidents.

Oily sheen on the beach anyone?

Isn't it ridiculous that there'd even be a discussion.

I like the Mira Lago idea.....

Honestly, just like the unfounded decision to ban transgendered individuals from the military (which was eventually killed by the courts), crack down on legal marijuana etc.... I feel like many of these unpopular moves are basically trying to feed red meat to his base, at the expense of pissing off everyone else

I agree with you. Florida's pretty much fooked already, so I guess they figure, what's a few drilling rigs close to the shore matter anyway? Or to quote Cankles "What difference, at this point, does it make?"

Start a new thread on the topic. Not sure why you'd expect to see discussion on a completely different topic here!

I didn't get that they were trying to start a discussion on a completely different topic. Just wondering why people have their bloomers in a bunch over offshore drilling when, on land, the state is being paved over at a mad clip. It's a valid question, IMO.

Birth and immigration create more need for housing and amenities and to get there you need transportation and transportation requires reasonably priced fuel and ... you can't stop growth or you go into decline. True stabilization requires .... growth.Managing growth is the hard part as you can't tell Someone they can't live in a certain area, especially if they vote.

Cancer is growth. Usually they cut it out in order to stabilize the patient. Just sayin'. Not all growth is good, not by a long shot. Is the growth of the mosquito population good? Python population? How about the growth of the sugar industry? People seem to forget what happened when the green goo spread from Lake Okeechobee all the way to Port St. Lucie. But that's growth, right?

Maybe the way to handle growth is to make Florida completely unaffordable to live here except for the more affluent population.

So, then, what difference does it make whether or not we have offshore drilling?
