Well i guess for me, we bought a fixer upper on the lake 7 years ago for a little over $40,000 so i guess that may be why our insurance is so low. I don't think all of Citrus County is having an insurane issue but i do know Hernando and Pasco really went up as we have friends who live in "sinkhill" i mean Springhill who is having the problems with their insurance because of all the sinkholes there.

The problem isn't that there are hundreds of "real" sinkholes the problem is that there are too many lawyers making it their job to find sinkholes where there aren't any then sueing to get people's homes paid off. There are more fradulent sinkholes then "actual" sinkholes

I live in Pasco County which has the second highest rates in the state second only to Monroe County (The Key's) and yet Pasco County according to the meteorologist and state agencies is the "least" likely area to be hit by a hurricane. (and hasn't had a direct hit ever!) We are not in the southern portion of the state. All I have to say is those of you un-affected by the outrageous increases...hold on to you panties...you have been fore warned!

I was told by the insurance companies that it is not the hurricanes but the SINKHOLES here. Even though I am in East Pasco, they lump they whole county together. For most of us in Pasco, there is no insurance at all except Citizen's. I have a little Florida cracker shack (old) and if I went with Citizens would have to pay close to $3,000! I told my lender I couldn't get any ins. and they placed me with their blanket lender, which doesn't provide much, but I don't care. The house I sold (next door) last year went from about $1,200 ins. when I had it to about $3,600 this year with Citizens! So no, we are NOT exaggerating. I know people paying even more. It is extortion, plain and simple!
That's what we were told too,we were getting quotes on a house in pasco county in New Port Richey,,it's definately not an exageration.

Default spring hill quote

we are looking at a house in spring hill and jut got a quote of $1700. That is almost triple from what I pay now - in NY - $620.00. The taxes are alot cheaper in Fl than NY, but with the ins, it will probably be a wash!!!

You scare the buyers away and the then other people have to have to drop their prices to get out of their homes. Buyers are drying up because of people like you and the media that exagerate costs. I'd like to see your bill on line. Post that to show us, not the picture of your house. I'll be happy to show anyone my insurance bill. My insured amount is 200k replacement value with State Farm Ins., not 149k.
Oh believe me, it is very true....and makes no sense. Mine is now 2400 a year for a manufactured home worth 107K. now, if I was over 50, I would be paying 700 to 800 a year like most of my neighbors. My Mom has a home woth 400K and her neighbor was paying almost double of my Mom's rate. Her friend switched to my Mom's company and now pays less. She has another neighbor who can only get wind insurance from Citizens...go figure

I for one can believe it, the house I sold in Florida in Brevard County the new owner is paying triple for Ins. and taxes than what I payed. I don't know how they can do people like that and get away with it...but they are and it's a shame.

If you own the house free and clear, cancel this ripoff hurricane insurance! I would never pay anywhere close to that no matter where I decide to live!
