Suppose I see a house that I might want to buy on Realtor.com or some other site. Short of actually going there how would I go about researching the community where the house is located? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arrow Well...

I think you've come to the right place! Give us the name of the community and a moderator will get it to the right forum (or post a new thread in the appropriate forum). You could also call the city's chamber of commerce, or just search it on the web. But the best thing to do, in an ideal world, is go. I, for one, would never buy a house sight unseen.

Good advice. Thank you.

If you find the house on realtor.com get the address. If it's not listed go to yahoo and then to the real estate section and do an mls search on your property. You should be able to get the address.

Then find out what county it is in and go into the county records. You should be able to find out sales and tax info.

Look for the local newspaper online. Talk to other people in the state forums. You can also go to Mod Deleted Podunk - Profiling 46,000 cities, villages, towns, townships and podunks across America[/url] to find out statistics.

Never buy without actually seeing the house, area, and or property.

Good Luck
Lisa
