Here is an interesting article about New York's taxman chasing those escaping from New York to Florida.

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/08/tax-...ax-states.html

I know my threads about taxes and states get stricken by the thought police and free speech deniers but this is a factual issue no matter how much those in power want to deny it. Taxes are a big reason Northerners move to Florida. Let's discuss how to keep these low tax states safe and sound.

It has a lot to do with Florida. Why does our population double every winter time? Because the snowbirds are New Yorkers who claim Florida residency if they are here long enough each year. Then they become Florida tax payers etc..... Many become permenant and throw off the chains of New York taxation. New York wants their tax base back and thus is the thrust of the article. It is in the Florida section because has had a great impact on Florida tourism, Florida population growth, Florida property values and Florida culture.

I heard from affluent friends from Georgia, that Georgia came after them for the same reasons. They told me what I needed to do to stay legal. I followed their tips, saved $12,000, and never got audited by Georgia...yet. I hope they do, because I've got it all documented in writing on leases, truck rental receipts, voter ID, drivers licences, utility bills, ect.. Bring it on!

Georgia can rotate on its State income taxes, many affluent folks like us can live anywhere they want. Au revoire Georgioux!

Yes, I have a friend who has a home here and in the NE and FL is the State of residence. The friend spends just under 1/2 a year in the ex-home State. Saves a LOT and FL gains by the money spent here.

The '6 months and a day' is bogus and a myth.

There are other requirements, but you must live for less time in your "2nd home".
