Hi,

I'm an old car fan, and I've even owned two used cars that spent their lives in Florida prior to me buying them--neither had body rust, but both had faded paint.

Question: What parts of FL are the worst for body rust? I assume along the coastline (but ironically that's where most of the population lives.) Is the west coast of FL the same as the east coast of the peninsula re: body rust?

I've lived in coastal CA before and the same issues prevail, although maybe to a lesser degree because the ocean water is much colder than FL (less evaporation? not sure though.)

Thanks!

BTW, Barrett-Jackson just had a huge muscle car auction in Palm Beach recently which got me to thinking about this again.

Along the coasts pretty much, no matter which coast it is.

It is nothing like Michigan or many of those snow, ice, for months on end states, that have salt on the rod for many months of the year.

I would call Florida a rust free state. Even the slightest care for your car will prevent it pretty much.

I never had rust issues living on either coast... but then again I took care of my cars.

No, as long as there are no scratches. Bare metal will rust quickly.

OK. Even if I had a million dollars, I don't think I'd want to be right near the coast anyway. I've heard electronics corrode, AC units corrode, etc etc. Thanks.

no salt brine on the roads down here..so no rusting cars like the mid Atlantic or northern regions.

Yes, there's the risk near the coast due to the moisture and salt content, but it's not going to be anywhere near what you would experience in the northeast and so forth. Never hurts to keep a coat of wax on the car or your firearms properly lubricated where there is moisture and salt content

I will add for an old car, meaning like decades old "classics" with chrome everywhere, that chrome will be the areas most vulnerable, so make sure to keep them cared for a little.

North and central east coast are worse because of the more frequent and more intense wave action. On days of heavy surf and onshore wind my car will get coated with a layer of salt mist in a couple of hours at my office two blocks from the beach. It's all about the surf and wind direction.
