The rationale for short selling:

- No new customers: people like you who never went on one, will definitely not change their mind
- Young people / millenials: can opt for many other type of vacations
- Existing customers: at least 50% will not return to a cruise based on all the stories of being stranded at sea if things go wrong
Except when they redomicile to the US and get bailed out. I bought their stocks at the bottom and sold half for a quick 25-50% profit. I will sell out the rest upon the news of the arrangement with the government to stop them from filing bankruptcy. Certainly not a long term investment. Trade only.

Short selling means you eventually have to purchase them and with the uncertainty around bailouts for the cruise lines, it's just too big of a risk to hold long or short them. Besides, the time to short them was probably back in February when this news first came out. Most of the cruise stocks have fallen 50% or more since then.
They bounced back quite a bit, including today. Also, you don't have to buy them back if they go bankrupt.

They don't say that...

It's filtered on the ship (as soon as you flush,) and then dumped in the ocean as a clean byproduct.
