Destroyed the quality of life where exactly? Less sprawl is exactly what we need to preserve the environment, as well as the smaller rural towns.
It’s kind of amazing how you can drive 30 minutes out of a place like Manhattan and find yourself in beautiful, peaceful countryside, yet 30 minutes from any of the big 3 urban centers places you in massive suburbia with cookie cutter homes and strip malls. This is not smart development.

The person I responded to is from NYC/NJ. We don't need that crap here. The way we are spread out here is far superior than the mess they have up there. Keep that mess up there. There is a reason people abandon that crazy mess to come here.

I’m pretty sure they are from Massachusetts, and not NYC/NJ.
Also, I hope you know that not all of Metro NYC is a congested mess. As I said above, there are beautiful countryside towns just 30 from the city center. You can live in metro NYC without ever having to deal with the city chaos, if you so choose.

As for reasons why so many come to FL, well, there’s weather, and CoL.

There is no good argument that can be made for the ever-increasing sprawl in Florida cities, and urban planners are finally seeming to get their heads together, with a heavier recent focus on inner-city developments in places like Orlando and Tampa.

How much of your economy is dependent on growth. If development stops, a good chunk of your population is unemployed.

Drive away from the metro areas and you will see nothing for hundreds of miles.
Those vast rural areas is where the affordable housing is at. The land close to the Atlantic & Gulf of Mexico is more desireable and is for those with greater means. The closer to the coast, an more land costs. It's supply and demand at work.

They wrote in their profile they were from NYC & NJ & MA. What we have in Florida has been working. People need to stop running away from places they hate and then try to make us into the place they ran away from. Our taxes are much lower here because we do not do the insane things they do. We live within our means. Look at all the places where covid19 has run wild. They are almost all liberal metro areas. Their way of doing things is the wrong way. Keep that crap the hell out of here.

Aren't places like NYC, Boston, etc. the way they are because they experienced exponential growth prior to the advent of cars?
