Don't stand near a tree when lighting is around.

A thunderstorm is pretty much a (almost) daily occurrence here in Florida in the summer and fall. And it's quite common for the radar to be clear one minute and then storms to start up a half hour later.

Lol, so no "shade trees" for me! On the serious side, I have not thought about lightning in years until this happened. So sad

Silly question for something that kills 7 people per year in Florida, about the same number as alligator bites, and about 25 people per year nation wide. There are about 50 other things more likely to kill you in Florida. Maybe that is why this story is news worthy, because it is such a rare thing.

They were just unlucky. Not that you should intentionally push your luck by standing on balcony of your high rise condo in the middle of a thunderstorm.

What is the silly question you are referring to?

I just do not get why some folks feel a need to join a discussion they think is "silly"?

Have an awesome day/night!

I am sorry you are offended. I did not mean to offend. It is easy to do on the internet.

I was referring to the title "How do you avoid being struck by lightning in Florida". Maybe I read too much into it. The title seemed to imply an urgent need to know how to avoid being struck by lighting. Since only 7 people die that way annually, it struck me as silly that it would be some "need to know" item.

Maybe I misunderstood the reason you sstarted this thread.

The articles title is "Lightning strike kills mom, injures child and dog in Florida" which is purely informational. You made a query that sounded like you were worried about being struck by lightning in Florida and were seeking advice to avoid being hit by lightning. My reaction came from my perception you were overreacting to worry about something that only kills 7 people a year, when there are so many more common causes of death and injury.

I apologize if I offended or misunderstood your query.
