My opinion may be biased because I have two kids currently attending Florida college with their tuition paid by the Bright Futures program funded by this. To qualify, they had to have:
- 3.5 GPA
- SAT score at least 1330
- 100 hours of community service (volunteered at local YMCA and hospital and ended up doing many more hours than required)

So there were some benefits for them and local community.

I'm for freedom... legalize gambling, prostitution, recreational marijuana... tax it, regulate it and enforce tough penalties if laws are broken. Most of my friends used bright futures out of high school to pay for college, so if bright futures comes from the lottery than I think it's a win win.

Lol, no prostitute in their right mind would move to Florida. Too many "poor" John's. On the serious side, I agree about the scholarship. Way to go Florida!

If the education system is benefitting so well from this, then why are there "too many" poor johns? One would think they'd be better equipped to find either decent jobs, or get into politics where they can make legislative changes to work conditions and pay.

Bright Futures paid my full ride at UF. So I’m just another example. More than 20 years ago but those requirements look familiar. My ACT score just squeaked by. I had many other friends who got the 75% tuition paid for.

These are success stories right here!

Only glitch: the don't have enough money for all the kids taking advantage of this so they keep raising the requirements If less kid's qualify then they have enough money to pay for the kids that do qualify. Then of course the minorities don't score as well and suddenly they are being excluded from the free money scholarships due to the higher requirements.......

I'd rather kids get their money from lottery money than taking loans!

But then again, that presents another issue, the brightest kids get the bright futures money and the less bright kids are signing up for 8-9% loans that will bury their future.
