What am I missing here?

If I moved into a Retirement Community, I would not want someone under age 55 in it. Lol, I have been dealing with a 26-year old from hell for 4 years.

They may as well change it to a regular community as I am sure other youngsters will be moving in too/lol.

And after this article I bet more families are going to want to move in their kids, nieces/nephews, grandkids and so on.

We already don't have enough affordable Senior Housing.

Lol, glad I read this so I do not waste my time moving into a Senior Community.

Now some young people like my 35-year old daughter would respect the rules and not have any wild parties.

The 26-year old I am dealing with feels that I do not need to sleep at night.

I once lived in a 55+ complex… I think I was early 20s at the time. I’ll elaborate shortly, but from what I recall, there is a required percentage allowance or something. I believe it was like 2% of the population could be under the age requirement. And I think it was either county or state law. I’ll look it up later.

I know some have rules that the main renter has to be 55+ but other co-renters only needed to be 21 or 25+. I saw those rules a few years ago at more than one place when I was looking into them

Happy Labor Day Monday Thanks for stopping by to join our discussion. I use to "enjoy" living around the younger generation until this 26-year old from "hell" moved in. Lol, not every 64-year old like me wants a "mixed generational" set up. But I am happy for those that do as that is what AARP is pushing for. Me, "dream't" all of those years of working being able to "retire" into "peace and quiet". Your info has been very helpful!

On a bit of a tangent here, but: one other thing that has become more common is single mothers with one or more kids, or young children on their own (the absent parent(s) are often drug-addicted or are incarcerated) living with a retirement-aged parent/grandparent. It's really quite tragic. I won't elaborate further so as not to hijack the topic, but, yeah...

Lol, you are welcome to hijack = no rules here. All comments welcome My conclusion: I am NEVER moving to a Retirement Community. I think I will move way out into the wilderness with nature. After 4 years of "hell" with the 26-year old, ready for some "peace and quiet"

I could not agree more. I am also in my 50's, but currently renting in an all ages complex. It does not seem to me that the 55 only requirement is enforced in those communities, so I am leery of moving into one. I think it is the same in 55+ mobile home parks. When I read the small print, it says co-renters may be under 55 or something to that effect.

Some complexes allow up to 20% of the buyers and/or renters to be under 55. It depends on the association.

I think there is more money in renting to under 55 because they are not on fixed incomes.

I would LOVE a community that was truly 55+.
