That's known as a loaded question fallacy.

There are still more retirees moving TO Florida, than there are retirees moving OUT of Florida.

Agree. The last census showed the median ages of all the counties here in SWFL rising by about 3 or so years since the 2010 census.

SWFL keeps getting older. I lived in Naples from 91 to 2002 before moving north for 13 years. SWFL seems to have got a lot older from when I lived here before. Sure, SWFL was always older folks, but back in the 90s there was still young people in the mix! Now it seems a lot older, especially Collier County whenever I'm there. Hardly anyone from my high school days lives in SWFL still.

To add, some are moving out though. In my large sub division a lot of them the last couple years have put their houses up for sale. A few moving back to places like IN, IL, but the bulk of them moving to places like GA, NC, SC because it's a bit cheaper, a change of seasons but not super cold, and less crowds and HOAs to deal with.

Many who retired to FL have aged, lost spouses, require help and move to be near family in order to get the support they need.

That article does not break down by demographics though. Net migration can be positive but certain age or socioeconomic groups can buck the trend.

I personally know of several examples of people moving from FL and AZ in the last couple years.

Remote work/Covid/ and the recent pat of low rates definitely distorts the numbers.

that's exactly why 2 of our neighbors moved this past year....and didn't want to maintain those huge houses by themselves

...one moved to the Villages...the other one back to family

So if NOBODY is moving to No. 50 California, then demand for real estate in California must be in the toilet.

Unless this article is actually fake news. Which obviously it is. Since California real estate continues to be among the most expensive in the nation due to the number of people wanting to live there. For obvious reasons. Like beautiful weather and beautiful organic and LOCAL produce both readily available.

But somebody let me know when U-haul says you can buy a SFH 3/2 house in Hancock Park for 300k..........I'll wait.
