We know first hand of many singles, younger married couples and older (not retired) couples that sold their houses and/or condos at extremely stupid high prices, taken the huge gain and have moved intrastate, but most out of Florida to other, mostly southern states - 3 exceptions were in east TX,AR and AZ.

Really, it's not that unusual to see half-backers each year. Are people moving to FL? of course - too many, and in some cases the wrong kind of people (criminals included, and illegals in droves).

People tend to do what's good for them at the time, or for their pocketbooks or happiness longer term. It certainly is not an exercise in poor judgment to take absolutely huge profits on a darn house/car/stocks-bonds/gold/collectibles-jewelry and go on your merry way to experience something or somewhere else in you own lifetime. Those are individual, easily understood decisions. Sometimes all good things come to an end - that includes life itself. Being 'married' to a house or state makes no sense for some. Understood.

Unless this article is actually fake news. Which obviously it is. Since California real estate continues to be among the most expensive in the nation due to the number of people wanting to live there. For obvious reasons. Like beautiful weather and beautiful organic and LOCAL produce both readily available.

But somebody let me know when U-haul says you can buy a SFH 3/2 house in Hancock Park for 300k..........I'll wait.

The article does not say nobody is moving to CA. But fewer people are moving there compared to the outbound. This is why CA lost a Representative. https://calmatters.org/politics/2021...ngress-census/

Also, home prices are linked more to supply and demand. I saw this in the 1970's. Probably long before you were born. We had a raging inflation under Carter and the economy was in the toilet. But home prices remained high due to a shortage of housing. I know people who moved from CA to FL and I'm sure people in CA know of people moving to CA from FL. The big picture shows CA is bleeding residents (at least the legal ones)

I personally know of several examples of people moving from FL and AZ in the last couple years.

Remote work/Covid/ and the recent pat of low rates definitely distorts the numbers.
Florida is still the number one destination for retirees. https://www.napa-net.org/news-info/d...s-retired-2022
I found several sources based on census data but this one was pretty good. No doubt we all know retirees who are leaving the state, but as of 2022, there was still a net migration to Florida. A relative on mine rents UHauls. There are many outbound trucks to other states. All ages. Some have found better jobs or got transferred. Some are just struggling. I guess 2023 may show different trends but as today there is still a net migration. My guess over time, Florida growth will slow. Just my opinion. Housing and inflation is hurting a lot of people. I do know that people are hesitant to sell their home with a 3% mortgage and buy another at 6.5%. This could cause a housing shortage. I witnessed this before in the 1970's.

LIKE I SAID. there’s still plenty of demand for California real estate. No matter how many residents it’s allegedly bleeding.

Don't move to Florida when you are 75, and then expect some Doctor to magically make you feel like you're 55.

More like the premise of expectation to see a specialist within four months or have more than ten minutes with your primary care doctor who books appointments every 15 minutes.
