Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to relocate to the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area and am having a hard time finding apartment rentals in the area....
I've checked Apts.com, aptguide.com....even Craigslist....
and it's pretty slim pickings out there..

Does anyone have any suggestions on good areas for apt rentals ? Any specific complexes to name?

Thanks!

I'm in the same situation you are or were. What did you find down there?

Destin doesnt have but a few apartments at all. And their pretty expensive. FWB has more but the majority are older and not very nice. Try Cayo Grande or Chez Elan. Their nice and new but renting close to a thousand a month.

Have you considered a long term rental house? With the economy like it is, lots of the vacation rental homes are doing that to generate income and some are more than reasonably priced.

Smile Shhhhhhh.....

Go to the quiet area of Navarre. Don't tell anyone though as it's not advertised much. It's close to Destin, P.City and yet far enough away from the spring losers, Ooops, I meant breakers to escape that nonsense. Plenty of inexepensive rentals, homes, apt.'s , etc. and only 20 minutes down the road in Santa Rosa County.

You do get more for your money by renting in Navarre. The trade-off is having to deal with US 98 traffic on a daily basis. The people I know that live out there seem to have to very frequently deal with accidents on that road, and there's also a lot of congestion around the Hurlburt Field gate and a little congestion around the schools.

Most of the rental property in the area is along the lines of condos, townhomes, or single family homes instead of big apartment complexes. When we rented in the area, we lived in a two bedroom in a condo complex behind the Breakers on Okaloosa Island. Kind of a scruffy area (we called it Dirtbag Paradise) but we never felt unsafe there to the point I'd run Santa Rosa Blvd alone at 9:00pm, rent was about $100 more a month than we would have paid for a two bedroom in FWB proper, and we were a block from a public beach access. (Our old landlord has since died and his kids have sold off the properties he owned in that area)

Best thing to do is call big real estate offices and see if they've got a property management divison.

There are a ton of rentals on the market today. With so many people unable to sell their properties, many are trying to rent them long term for some income. If you find a property like this, make sure you know the details regarding the property still being "on the market".

Here is a link to the Rental section of one of the local papers. Hopefully it will give you a little help:

Best of luck!
