That is undoubtably true, but the fact is that tourism is not down all that significantly YET. The signs are very mixed. Summer is usually the slow season here in South Florida (not as true for Orlando) and it looks like things are pretty hopping every time we go out. We have trouble finding parking, we wait to be seated at restaurants, stores are crowded......Things are not all rosy because the housing market is very distressed and there have been some job losses but it seems like there are some positive factors mixed in with the negative.

Even if the tourists are from other countries right now, Fl can sure benefit from their business. Tourism is the one industry that can bring in wealth from other countries when the dollar is weak. Take advantage of it!

We were going to go on a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. The rates were really cheap even for a cabin with a balcony. HOWEVER, when we saw how much the fuel surcharges and taxes were we decided not to. They were about half the price of the cabin!

We decided to fly to NY for a long Thanksgiving weekend with family. The airfare on Jet Blue was a lot cheaper. No fuel surcharges, no extra baggage fees. They do charge extra now for seats up front, but that doesn't matter to me since I am very small anyway.

Gas prices are actually going down though. It was $3.85 at a 7/11 in Ft. Myers yesterday. Here in Naples the average is now around $3.99.

My daughter lives on Long Island. She said the average price there is about $4.30. So, if people come from up there, gas prices will seem very cheap here.

This is true, here in Fort Lauderdale ( Pembroke Pines ) the gas price was $3.98 p/gallon yesterday; but I think that in a few weeks the gas prices will go up again...

My fiance and I drove to Philadelphia yesterday. Driving through NJ, the cheapest we found was 3.75!! Here in NYC it's about 4.25.
