Hey there,

I need advice on finding a city for a financial services person with a young growing family...

I currently live and work in Toronto Canada. I am in the financial services / banking field, and work as a director of insurance sales distribution. I am married with 4 kids (aged from 5 months to 19 years) yes that is a big age spread!!!

No longer happy with the long Canadian winters and we are looking to move south for a warmer climate. I have an MBA but I am also busy studying again and will eventually qualify as a Canadian certified management accountant (CMA). We plan to move after my studies. I'm maybe 2 years away from my next promotion at the bank I work for (to Vice President). Because I currently support several Spanish speaking countries at the bank, I have been learning Spanish. I am BASIC conversational in Spanish, and should be "sort of" fluent before we move South... English is my home language.

Here's what is important (in order of priority)
1. Work. I would be looking for more senior level financial service sales / banking management jobs, i.e. $100K jobs. Economy is bad now but we will only move in a few years' time (assuming things will be better by then).
2. Crime. Canada is well-known as a safe country and we would want "similar' levels of safety. I would be more than willing to live in the suburbs and commute an hour to work...
3. Schooling. Decent public schooling standards and/or affordable private schools.
4. Beach. Must be close to the beaches (within 30 minute drive)
5. Climate. I know the weather varies in Florida. Heat is NOT an issue for us, and we would prefer to avoid areas that get too cool in the winter months. Wife and I are caucasion but were both born and raised in Africa. Heat is ok.
6. Affordability. It is no good earning a lot and then paying an arm and leg for a home. Don't mind commuting far but overall housing needs to be reasonable for a 4,000 ++ SQFT home in relation to what that city pays in salaries. Also need more affordable smaller homes (the kids will eventually grow up and and they also need to live ok).
7. Family friendly. Open areas, parks, play grounds, kid friendly things to do. Something for teens... hopefully not too much drugs (not expecting a drug-free city or town)

Sorry about all the questions but it is never too soon to plan. Successful planning today usually results in future success tomorrow.
Thank you soooooooooooooo much

Jacksonville or Tampa would be good choices.

I've heard many people advise to "go where the work is."
Which cities are best if you are looking for management positions in financial service work (e.g. banking, insurance)?

I am very aware that right now no city is good for this type of work so I'm talking more long-term (in a few years once this financial melt down is over).
How does Miami, Tampa, Jacksonville and Orlando shape up against one another?
