Even though Fla real estate market values have fallen off a cliff, the county tax assessors for the most part continue to RAISE their assessments of the taxable value of your property!

The law clearly states that your tax assesment should be based on the FAIR MARKET VALUE of the property. Yet across Florida tax assessors are raising their assessments of the taxable value of property even though the fair market value of real estate is plunging!

The real estate bubble has burst and Florida property values have fallen off a cliff yet our tax assessments keep going up even though the fair market value is going down!

This is flat wrong and an abuse of power by your local tax assessor!

Fight back, appeal your tax assessments to your local Value Adjustment Board!

If thousands of angry tax payers swamped the VAB, then it would send a message to the greedy politicians who are wrongly raising your taxes every year. If you file a petition they must review it. If you have a good case showing that comparable properties to yours have fallen in value, they must reduce your property taxes according to state law.

Petition appeal forms are availabble from the county Property Appraiser and the Circuit Courts office and must be filed by Sept 16th.

Send them a message! Swamp them with appeals!

Who knows? You can vent and have fun making them squirm and maybe will even get your property taxes reduced!
