For anyone who thinks the insurance crisis is on the mend has not a clue! It is STILL a major problem. There was an article in today's paper that is shocking! How would you like your insurance to jump from $4,000 a year to $18,867, or another person who's insurance went from $8,000 to $90,000 a year! After all is said and done the only business left in Florida will be all the Wal Mart's on every corner! Think twice if you are a business owner moving to Florida!

Lightbulb Manufacturing: Beating the Odds

Depends on the type of business:

The biggest challenge for a manufacturing business is to successfully manage its growth,” says Hispanic business woman January Dennison, CEO of Haines City-based Technology Research Consultants, an engineering and manufacturing firm. Dennison, the 2006 Small Business Administration Small Business Person of the Year for Florida, launched TRC in 1998. TRC now employs 80 and has annual sales of about $16 million.

Tax incentives & training grants
Florida offers a number of tax incentives for targeted industries – sectors selected by the Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development in conjunction with Enterprise Florida. For training, the Quick Response Training Incentives and Incumbent Worker Training Program (see “Resources,” p. 72) offer grants to new and existing businesses for customized, flexible training.

Lightbulb Small business confidence holds steady

Business owners' confidence in the economy remains in line with January, but higher gas prices are a big concern. Posted today....

Optimism was reflected on the hiring front: 17 percent of owners plan to hire more workers in February, up from 14 percent last month; 39 percent also plan to spend more on business development, which is up from 35 percent in January.

However, concerns about cash flow also rose. Forty percent of business owners who sell products reported a significant jump in cash flow concerns, up from 24 percent in the previous month, the survey said.
