OK - so I know that hurricane season starts in June, right?? Well I will be moving there in June. I was thinking that maybe I should start getting some supplies up here (LI) like plywood and stuff and moving it there with me. I have this delusion that a hurricane will be approaching when I move there and I will be left with no supplies Wha'dya think?

Depends what you're going to be boarding up...I think it was like $9 to $12 a board at home depot during the hurricane rushes....$18 for the best board...Murphy's Law usually rings true.

Again, depends on your home that you're moving to and a bit on where you're moving, of which you don't say

Did you buy a new home? The new homes come with hurricane shutters.

June and July hurricanes that make landfall are pretty rare events. Typically the hardware stores only run out of plywood a couple of days before a storm. I wouldn't worry about bringing plywood down with you.

Find out what the builder provides (shutters, etc), keep an eye on the weather channel once a week. And if you feel that you must bring supplies do so, is your call. If you have the money and want to be proactive do it. But if the season is starts slow wait until you get here.

the most common months for hurricane action are August and September....been here for 17 years! I think it would be easier and wait to buy as soon as you get here, just for ease of moving. Plus if you store large pieces of plywood for too long here, the humidity bends them.

This website is for tracking storms. Once there is a tropical depression in the Atlantic, this site will start posting maps and track data. Also, you can subscribe for free and it will send you hourly updates on the storms track.

I used to live on the East coast and this site was a gift.

That's kind of funny but you know, you got a point, we do run out of plywood like 2 days before the storms come. But to answer your question, NO it would be such a hassle to bring plywood down with all your other stuff. You need to get here, settle in and then worry about picking up some plywood before the storms get here (only if your home doesn't have the shutters already) or other supplies for that matter. One thing i would suggest you stock on that i never really did before was ICE. we went 5 days in the middle of August without power and all we wanted was a cold ice drink and couldn't find ice any anywhere. Seems like it's something so minor but boy, when your out there cleaning your yard in 90+ temperature... there's nothing like a cold ice drink.
