We do not find them quaint or fascinating, they are just trees, and not particularly attractive ones, either.

Hey now, speak for yourself! I love the look of Palm Trees, especially palm tree lined streets!

It's not that I hate them, I just don't think they should be plopped down everywhere without regard to native species.

People from parts more northern go nuts over them - those of us that have lived here longer don't find them particularly interesting is all.

Developers (for Icon) cut down tons of native trees/woods last year here in Celebration. The animals were going nuts-totally displaced The noise from the highway was crazy after. The condos (Siena) right near the land dropped in value very quickly! Then they canceled the project! Or put in on hold-who knows. I think they should have to replace every last tree they were allowed to cut down.

Oooooh, that makes me SO SICK! I thought there were laws now about cutting down all these trees? Talk about bad karma.....

I was sick this week about a neighbor here in my neighborhood who cut down a HUGE old oak tree (for no reason I can determine) had to be over 100 years old, maybe more, and plopped in a scraggly ugly palm. Took ALL the shade right out of his yard. Hate when people do that! I felt bad for all the bird nest etc that were in there.....

I think that most of them start to appreciate that REAL trees provide shade after a few really hot summers.

Palm trees = useless in that regard.

I thought there were serious charges for cutting down full grown trees as well! The land was owned by Disney (Disney Development Corp) before Icon bought it so who knows who they paid off.

Palm trees are prettier than pine trees, so I say the more, the better. If Florida only had it's natural vegetation, it wouldn't be nearly as beautiful.

For all that I think palms work well in many landscaping situations, a native mature live oak massively pwns any palm tree I can think of.

I love live oaks in the summer, but they look pretty creepy in the winter. I definitely don't think they should be cutting down live oaks, though.
