Where in Florida is it possible to live downtown (big or small) so that I can walk to dinner or breakfast from my condo, walk or ride to the beach to play pro beach volleyball, and teach middle or high school no more than 20 minutes from where I live hopefully in an pretty good, safe school? I could pay $300,000 for a small condo and was looking into Ft. Lauderdale, Naples or Clearwater. Would any of those work? Alternatives?

I may have a job offer in Plantation.

You probably could do all of those things in downtown Naples, especially since the housing market has gone down so much (short sales/foreclosures). The problem would be the job, but not the distance. Staff was cut last year and all new hires in the district will only get one year contract. Nobody knows what will happen next with the budget or how much money will be coming in from the state or feds. I work for the school district. I don't know if other areas of Florida are experiencing the same school budget problems.
