Is this a good idea?

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials will discuss the proposal at a June 13 meeting in Melbourne.

Still being determined are how homeowners would obtain the necessary paperwork for killing the gators, and how the reptiles would be killed.

"Obviously it is illegal in most if not all incorporated areas to discharge a firearm," said commission wildlife biologist Steve Stiegler. "We would probably have to come up with recommendations as to the most humane methods to euthanize."

This 8-foot alligator spent an hour banging its head at her front door before returning to a nearby lake in the Vasari community. The reptile later was captured by a trapper, who hauled it away.
Under the proposal, homeowners could kill or trap gators they find that are less than 4 feet long.

Great idea !
Imbeciles from NY and Jersey trying to kill gators in populated areas.
Lets see how many Darwin Awards get distributed in FL when this happens.

Once again, governmental genius's have it all wrong........
Its a people problem, not a gator problem.

wow. Why- cant they afford to hire more officials to move the animals? . Unbelievable.

I remember the one law about Sr Citizens carrying a gun to protect themselves. Ok, fine if they are mentally capable. I met a retired teacher- he was 85- had some senility setting in and showed me the gun he carried in his Honda Accord (he lived in Miami Lakes)- This sort of thing does NOT make me feel safe. Inmates running the asylum!

As long as they let us eat what gets killed. I wouldn't mind living with gators, in fact if the yard was infested with them, no zoning inspector would ever want to enter the property!

I'm sorry but maybe I am about to let myself in for some trouble but if I find that thing on my porch...there will be no need to call someone else...

Arrest me, fine me whatever you need to do but not on my porch...in my garage or in my fenced in backyard...

If he is THAT close, that is an imminent threat...more of a threat then a man with a gun in my opinion...a man can be reasoned with alligators go on pure instinct...they see children and small animals as a posible meal...not my child and animals, no thanks.

Default We...

are running them out of their habitats by over-building. Even the fox is being run out of the woods as the trees get torn down for houses that aren't necessary. Maybe they (foxes and gators) should eat some of the builders who are OVER BUILDING everything. No builders, no gators and foxes. Next problem.

Yes, we need housing but to build MORE HOUSES when there's a glut is just plain greedy and selfish.

I geuss since the alligators have been wronged we should just let them eat our children and house pets...would that make it up to them...or maybe it would just make them feel better if I allowed them to tear up the screens on my lanai...of course leaving me a single Mother to foot the bill...I totally see your point of view, whey should I be concerned for the safety of my child, myself and my pets in the face of what the almighty alligator has suffered...

As it is now...if a man tears through your screen and makes an attempt to break in through your sliding doors, you can shoot him...no problem...the alligator is given more rights then people...

This is the way it should be.
The man made a conscious decision to do something wrong...
The 'Gator is going on instinct. Big difference. Why should
nature always suffer at the hands of man ?? It has gotten so
out-of-hand we are letting developers more or less determine
what has a right to live and what doesnt.
