I've been reading advertisements in the NY Times about Real Estate and high quality of life in the town of Sebastian Fla. I've passed through Sebastian ( Indian River County) several times and was always impressed with the sleepy, laid back, gorgeous town. Not much of a town actually but, the neighborhood has a charming, old Florida 'feel.' Seemed like lots of surfers, fishermen, cool looking bohemians (with money from the looks of them) and golfers. The area seems quaint-ish and the people were friendly and inviting. The beaches and boat dock areas were gorgeous.
Would anyone care to add to my impressions ?
QUESTION: Why isn't there a housing-boom going on in Sebastian? I didn't see even one Townhouse/Condo development or high-rise. Have the city planners there done it right and avoided over-development and sprawl ?

There was development. I owned property in Grant and I have to say I made a killing when they began development. I bought it for my own use but a developer made me an offer I could not refuse. Thank God, I would not be able to give it away today. Places like, Cypress Creek are really nice gated communities. Here is the problem though. It is a fishing town. That place often fills up on weekends and there is a lot of drinking going on. To be honest, I kind of didn't like it there that much. If you are into fishing and boating it could be a paradise for you. I don't know if they still clam there but that used to be a big thing. You could just go out and pick dinner in the surf. It was pretty nice.

There are no housing booms going on anywhere in Florida and certainly not the Treasure Coast. Anything you need, be prepared to drive to either Melbourne of Vero Beach. They have the usual Publix and a Home Depot and a Walmart but no malls or big box electronic stores.

i can answer any specific questions about sebastian if you want to PM me. it is a nice, quiet, safe area. it is not a party town and most of the town rolls up at night, but if you like nature and tranquility it is the town for you. it isn't a high rise kind of town.
