I prefer Tampa, Tampa seems more established than Orlando does, in my opinion. Tampa is closer to the beach than Orlando is (Tampa is about 35 minutes from the beach, depending on traffic and Orlando is about 50 minutes from the beach.) Orlando seems to have more job opportunities though. However Orlando does seem to have more traffic since Orlando is a very touristy city even though Tampa has a larger population.

Which city do you like better?

Tampa hands down, Orlando seems to be in a never-ending struggle with itself deciding to become an actual city and retaining that small town feel. Orlando would be NOTHING without Mickey, also.

SM, why would you expect a small town feel? It's one of the biggest cities in Florida. To me, if it still felt like a small town, that would mean it's not progressing.

Tampa is OK, but one reason I like Orlando bettter is that we have a better downtown, with more things to do. Also we don't have as much of a flooding issue as they do.

I was responding to what Noodles stated. It used to be a small town, I remember when developments were cow pastures, people were born and raised here and waved to one another. Cant say that anymore, unfortunately. Now we are known for high crime, road rage and transients (but then again, so is Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Tampa and pretty much every other town with a medium to large population. Except Tally might not be in that group).

OK, I see what you're saying. I could do without the road rage. I don't care whether people wave to me or not. The other day I was driving near Clarcona-Ocoee and Pine Hills Road. I was driving south there was a lot of traffic going in the same direction of me, so it was hard for cars to enter from the right. A large vehicle was inching out into the lane, from the right, perpendicular to my car. When I came even to it he/she just started driving and basically "pushed" me into the next lane, so that they could gain a one lane advantage and get across the road. It's a miracle they didn't hit my passenger side. If I hadn't paid attention they would have, but luckily I saw what they were trying to do before they did it. All the time I was honking at them. It wasn't someone spacing out, they did it deliberately.

Orlando is by no means a small town, what I meant is the politicians, the traffic, tolls, and lack of industry, all contribute to Orlando not progressing. Orlando has a LONG way to go before becoming one of Americas greatest cities. Have you seen Otowns downtown? Its a joke! No culture either. That's why it is struggling to become a premier city. Orlando has ONE free interstate, I-4, most other big cities have at least 3-4 major freeways, not tollroads. I-4 is notoriously known as "the parking lot". Also there is no freeway connecting downtown Orlando to the airport, until then Orlando will always remain a small city struggling to make it "big".

The thread is to compare Tampa to Orlando, though. Obviously no one is going to try to say with a straight face that Orlando has as good a downtown as Boston, Chicago, etc. But do you really think Tampa's is better? When I've been there it's always been deserted.

That's pretty much common throughout FL. I dont know what's worse, Tampa (2nd most angriest city in America - 2006 - Forbes Magazine), Orlando (most angriest in 2006 - Forbes magazine) or South FL - road rage capitol 3 yrs in a row. I think Orlando and Tampa can definitely compete with S FL, so I'm automatically not a big fan of Tampa or Orlando.

Scientifical Madness, do you have a lot of trouble with the students in your area? My biggest reservation about east Orlando is not the Spanish but the UCF students. Also I've noticed that some of the worst drivers (anywhere in Florida) usually have a "Gators" bumper sticker.
