For me, it is my home state & maybe I can't see it any other way. I can think of many good & bad reasons, too...especially where I'm at, it tends to have more disadvantages right now.....but it also depends where one lives, so I can't generalize about Florida as a whole, it's not that easy. Florida is big, w/many counties and has many different feels to it, people, neighborhoods, etc. Even w/high costs of homes, ins. issues it varies widely depending on where one chooses to live. I can drive 1 or 2 counties away & it's like being in another planet...

You have summer anywhere you go in Lower 48 states, so why not have a Florida summer where EVERYTHING is air conditioned?

In exchange you don't have: 3 months of snow, 3 more months of mud, ice storms, frozen pipes, and can't get out of your drifted drive or snowbank.

Winters here are absolutely fabulous weather wise - no humidity and perfect sunny days. Even the chilly mid-winter days warm up fast to the 50's or 60's.

So Weather is #1 and #2 on my list

#3 beaches within and hour or two on either coast

#4 STILL reasonable living expenses in most areas of the state, compared to some areas - I came from NOVA and that is out of this world.

Such an open ended question that I just have to give one good reason. I'm a traveling consultant and spend a lot of time in the NE. Winter in the NE Mon-Thursday at 20 degrees, hop on a plane and 2 hours later it's 70 and sunny. Need I say more?
