Oh,yeah, this was in lovely Punta Gorda & down the street from a elementary school...and Punta Gorda is NOT a big city by any means....

Not really surprising for the area. But the snowbirders & retirees are well hidden from this part of Punta Gorda so they don't have to see it & believe it could happen.

There was a crack/meth bust in a parking lot in a restuarant the same day in Port Charlotte about 2 miles away & a few weeks ago there was another crack/meth bust in Punta Gorda.

This stuff does happen everywhere but it's sorta ironic when it happens in Punta Gorda b/c the people who own canal homes here think this is Bel Air or something. It's not. It's SW FL at its finest & it is the reality of the place....

So happy we are in the process of moving. Again, it happens everywhere, but we will no longer be in an area that uses the weather & beach as excuses for the rest of the crap.

A man kept the decomposing body of his 86-year-old roommate in their house for a month while he used the dead man's ATM card and cashed his checks, police said.

Incredible!!!!!!

When I hear of these stories, it makes me wonder if this man had a family or friends, and if he did, why weren't they keeping an eye on him?

There's a seedy underbelly in Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte and North Port. Well, in all of SW FL for that matter. There has always been a lot of drugs and drug users in the area, so it's not a surprise that the guy stole using the ATM card and checks.

he was 86 so they may have all been dead. And maybe he was an unsavory person as well? Who knows.

That home is in a block of areas that is very seedy & lots of drug/poverty issues. It has also received attention for being the area the City of Punta Gorda hasn't touched since the hurricane. But that is so Punta Gorda. As a realtor told us when we first thought of buying, "The best thing the hurricane did was get rid of the trailer parks." So desperate about image around here you wonder what they are trying to hide....
